Join Australia’s peak body for the working animals sector and have your say about this fast-growing sector. We provide a platform for individuals and organisations working in this industry to communicate and collaborate with the chief aim of supporting one-another to increase industry standards.

We Provide:

  • A united voice for the working animals sector advocating on behalf of members for greater recognition and support,
  • Delivery of a consistent codes and standards within the sector,
  • Providing education to members of the public to enhance recognition, increase standards and decrease discrimination,
  • Connecting service providers with training and continuing professional development opportunities,
  • Connecting clients with pre-vetted service providers to provide better access to working animal services.

The working animals sector encompasses a range of professionals in the following areas:

  • Assistance Animals
  • Therapy Animals (including animal-assisted therapy, animal-assisted learning, and animal-assisted activities)
  • Detection Animals
  • Education Animals
  • Animal Actors
  • Any other animal with a job.

Membership with WAFA provides you with access to a variety of resources to support your needs as a handler, trainer, professional or community member. Ranging from our free supporters membership to our platinum accreditation level, our clients receive access to key resources and services tailored to meet their needs.

Membership is subject to:

  • Agreeing to abide by the WAFA constitution and all WAFA codes and standards,
  • Being accepted by the WAFA managing committee, and
  • Membership is non-refundable once approved by the committee.

WAFA members are:

  • Individual members who are handlers, trainers and professionals providing paid or unpaid services in the working animals industry,
  • Member organisations who provide services in the working animal’s sector,
  • Members of the community who are interested in maintaining an affiliation with WAFA
